A lot of couples don’t know what to expect when hiring a DJ and are not sure what questions to ask. I have made a list using questions that I have been asked, mixed with some important questions that a lot of couples don't think to ask. It is crucial that you have this information before hiring your DJ.
Use this list with my answers to compare your potential DJs
1) Are you Samro registered? - If your DJ doesn't have a license, he risks the party being stopped early.
a. Yes, Our license number is 2289523
2) Do you offer lighting?
a. Yes, I try co-ordinate my lights with the music as much as possible, accenting certain parts of the song. I also have a smoke and bubble machine
3) Do you bring backup equipment with you to the wedding?
a. Yes, there are spare amps, lights, laptop and speakers
4) Are you insured?
5) Do we get to choose our own playlist?
a. Absolutely. The bigger your playlist the better.
6) What do you require from us?
a. A timeline of the day, a song list, a ‘do not play’ song/genre selection, a 50% deposit
7) Do you offer a written contract?
8) What makes you different from your competitors?
a. I am a musician (guitarist); I do more than press play on my laptop. I can do mashups, exaggerate build ups and beatmatch between songs. Beatmatching is probably the most important thing that a DJ needs to know. If this can’t be done flawlessly, the vibe can be ruined. I also mix within the key of the song (a key is a collection of notes that work together). This blends songs together very smoothly as they use the same notes. I have high standards for any DJ that works for ATIC, they need to be on the same level.
9) Will we meet again before the wedding?
a. Yes, it is important that we meet in person so that you can feel 100% comfortable that you made the right choice.
10) Do you take requests from guests?
11) How much would you charge for overtime?
a. R500 per hour after midnight
12) Is there a way for us to watch a performance?
a. Yes, we have a video on the weddings page of our website. www.atic.co.za/weddings. It includes video footage of a few recent weddings as well as pictures of the equipment.
13) If by any chance you can’t make it for the wedding, what would be the backup plan?
a. ATIC Mobile DJs will ensure that a suitable replacement runs the show.
14) How long in advance do we need to book?
a. The sooner the better, I get bookings about 10 months prior to the wedding date.
Hope these 15 questions help in the search for your DJ. If you have any questions that you would like to ask me, you can fill out the 'Contact' form on our website.
